My son had recently moved house and was wanting something a little different in the way of bedside lights. This got me thinking of an old photograph I had seen in an American magazine at some time. I had a basic design in my head from memory but was unsure of the way forwards in sourcing the items I needed. After contacting the amazingly helpful Laura at fixings and fittings we began to piece together the parts I would need for my venture. My biggest worry was being able to alter the angle of the lamp and with Laura’s help we included the use of hex nipples on each side of the upper tubing which then enabled me to alter the angle of the lamp quite quickly. The longer nipples were custom made by Fixings And Fittings and without these the project would have been sunk so a big thanks for that Laura!

The lamp holder size meant I had to modify the last 90 degree fitting in order to secure the holder and the internal electrical connections were protected by a rubber sheath I managed to obtain from a car breakers yard.

On my first prototype I used an on off lamp holder with a push button but then changed this for an inline switch which meant the actual lamp holder would not be continually touched. A safety feature more than anything else and far easier to turn on and off in the dark!

The lamps now take pride of place as bedside lamps for my son and his partner.
